The authors pay particular attention to such branch of Buddhism as Mahayana, because it is widely spread in the region. The article reveals the originality of Vietnamese Buddhism and the transformation of the concept of nirvana. The authors came to the conclusion that Buddhism developed in stages, each time introducing nuances into the concept of nirvana and liberation.
